Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe
Accommodation: Protea Hotel, Entebbe
Meals: D
You will be greeted at the airport and transferred the very short distance to your lakeside hotel for the evening. You will be given a briefing on your upcoming adventure and have time to shop for any last-minute supplies before heading into the wild.
Day 2: Entebbe to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest-Buhoma
Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge
Meals: B, L & D
After breakfast overlooking Lake Victoria, you’ll be transferred to the airport for your 2-hour scenic flight to Kihihi, to Bwindi. Under the forest canopy. You will arrive in time for a late lunch and have a few hours in the afternoon to explore the nearby village or just enjoy the sounds of the forest.
Day 3: Gorilla Tracking
Accommodation: Buhoma Lodge
Meals: B, L & D
Today’s the day! Your guide will already have booked you in so after a briefing from your ranger you head on foot to find your gorilla group. The walk can be anything from 30 mins to 4 hours, but is usually in the 1-2-hour range. The going can be tough, the terrain steep, vegetation lush and the weather wet but when you finally come across the magnificent beasts it will all be worthwhile! You will spend one hour with them, observing their day to day activities at close quarters, following them through the forest. The time will fly but the memories will stay with you forever.
Please note:
If you are sick you will not be able to visit. Gorillas are so closely related to us that they can catch all of our diseases but may not be so well equipped in recovering from them. Their safety is paramount.
A reasonable level of fitness is required for this trek.
Good walking shoes, waterproof jacket and long trousers (all in non-bright colours) are essential.
You are welcome to take photographs but you must use a camera where you can turn off the flash. Flash photography can freak out gorillas and you don’t want to be on foot near a freaked out 400lb gorilla.
After your trek you can enjoy a complimentary massage our just cosy up around the open fire.
