Known as the “Primate Capital of the World,” Kibale National Park is located in western Uganda. It is famous for its dense tropical rainforest and diverse primate population, including over 13 species of primates such as chimpanzees, red colobus monkeys, and L’Hoest’s monkeys. Visitors to Kibale have the opportunity to trek through the forest in search of chimpanzees, observing them in their natural habitat. The park also offers birdwatching opportunities, with over 375 bird species recorded, as well as nature walks and cultural encounters with local communities.
Situated in the western part of Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the country’s most popular safari destinations. It is named after Queen Elizabeth II and boasts a diverse landscape ranging from savannah plains and wetlands to volcanic craters and tropical forests. The park is home to an abundance of wildlife, including elephants, lions, leopards, buffaloes, and hippos. Visitors can enjoy game drives, boat safaris along the Kazinga Channel, and guided walks through the Ishasha sector to see tree-climbing lions. Queen Elizabeth National Park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with over 600 bird species recorded.
Located in southwestern Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is renowned for its population of endangered mountain gorillas. It is one of the few places in the world where visitors can embark on gorilla trekking expeditions to observe these majestic primates in their natural habitat. Beyond gorilla trekking, Bwindi is also home to other primates such as chimpanzees and various species of monkeys. The park’s dense rainforest is a hotspot for biodiversity, with over 350 bird species recorded, including numerous Albertine Rift endemics.
Situated in the western part of Uganda, Lake Mburo National Park is the smallest of Uganda’s savannah national parks but offers a unique experience with its diverse ecosystem. The park is characterized by rolling hills, acacia woodlands, and grassy valleys, surrounding a series of scenic lakes. Lake Mburo itself is the largest of these lakes and provides opportunities for boat safaris and recreational activities such as fishing. The park is home to a variety of wildlife, including zebras, impalas, elands, buffaloes, and hippos. Visitors can enjoy game drives, guided walks, and horseback safaris to explore the park’s flora and fauna.
